APD Test Software can be installed on PCs running Windows 7 or higher. The software program records all test data and saves it to a file on your computer. The PDF report generation uses MiKTeX, which is an open-source LaTeX distribution and must be installed separately. You can find the user manual for the software at the link provided below. The user manual contains detailed instructions on how to install APD test software and how to download, install and configure the MiKTeX package for the software to generate PDF reports.
Software License
Please purchase a license to run the APD Test Software program. You can purchase a license by visiting the software license webpage link below. We currently offer a 60-day free trial for audiologists who would like to try the program and understand the features and capabilities prior to purchasing a license.
Activating your license
After you purchase a license for the software, you will receive an email with the receipt of your purchase, along with a license key. You can register your software online using the email address entered at the time of purchase and the license key provided in the email. The activation process requires an active, working internet connection to register your device on AudiPro Audiology's server.
Trial License
You can download the latest version of the software and register for a 60-day trial license, which will give you access to all features and report generation capability of the software. To activate a trial license, download and install the software and register your installed product with your email address and the trial license key.
Trial license key is APD-test-software-trial
If you are having trouble activating the trial license, please consider disabling your anti-virus software temporarily and retry. You can turn it back on after the license has been activated.
Permitted Use on Devices
A license key can be used on up to two devices simultaneously. If you would like to install the software on a different device after you have registered two devices, you need to de-register one of the devices and then proceed to register the third device. In order to de-register an existing device, please download and run the APDTestSoftware De-registration tool on the device that currently has the APD test software installed and activated. If you are currently running the trial version, please note that your license expires after 60 days and you can still install a valid full license without de-registering the device.

Change Logs
Version 1.4.2 fixes the PDF report generation bug caused by MiKTeX package updates that have been released after May 20, 2022. If you installed MiKTeX after the aforementioned date or recently installed package updates via the MiKTeX console, the software will be unable to generate the PDF reports due to incompatibility with a character encoding line of code. This bug is fixed in Version 1.4.2. It is recommended (but not mandatory) to keep your MiKTeX packages up to date as well, so please consider updating them as well as the APD test software to this version.
MiKTeX installation
When you download the MiKTeX installer, you might run into an issue in the middle of the installation where the installer throws an error message with the title "Usage: setupwiz [OPTIONS]". This is a known issue with the current MiKTeX installer package and has nothing to do with the APD test software itself or your PC Windows version. To avoid this error, please right click on the MiKTeX MSI installer (basic-miktex-version-x64.msi) file, select the Run as Administrator option. This is a workaround to prevent the options error during MiKTeX installation.
During the installation, always choose to install MiKTeX (and later also run MiKTeX console) as administrator instead of current user.
License activation The trial license is valid for 60 days and is associated only with the device (PC/laptop/desktop) on which you activated the trial. A purchased license, however, requires both the license code (sent to you in an email) and the email address used at the time of purchase. The activation process should take only a few seconds and does not require MiKTeX to be installed - it only licenses your APD test software program. If you repeatedly encounter an error while trying to activate either a full license or a trial license, please try to temporarily disable any third-party antivirus on your device like Norton, McAfee, etc. and run the activation. Once your activation is successfully completed, you can turn the antivirus program back on.
Version 1.4.1 addresses a critical bug that causes a PDF report generation error, where the software terminates abruptly throwing a null reference exception error. The bug occurs when the user marks a test word as wrong on any of the central battery tests and does not enter the incorrect word, leaving its values as "null". This error has been fixed in Version 1.4.1, so you should be able to print the report without having to enter all incorrect responses. Please note that such words will still be counted as errors in the test scores, and also displayed as incorrect responses (the recorded response shown as a blank) in the phonemic error analysis tables.
Version 1.4 comes with a host of bug fixes, as well as a 60-day trial license for users who would like to try it before purchasing a full license.
- A major bug fix in Version 1.4 is the selection of individual APD central battery test results for printing on the PDF report. This feature is now fixed and users can now exclude tests from the report.
The default option will still print all tests (including questionnaires), but items can be deselected from the MyAPD section. When an individual test is excluded, the report will not show the test results in the summary on Page 1, qualifiers summary on Page 2 and overall test results. The test results are also excluded in the Phonemic Error Analysis calculations, i.e., errors in a test that is excluded will not be included in the PEA results tally tables. - Added the option to type punctuation and other characters into textboxes. This includes patient information on the startup screen, clinic information on the MyAPD screen and all wrong word boxes on the test screens. The program still does not allow the following characters owing to difficulty in formatting for print: ` ~ and ^
- Changed default score on phonemic synthesis test to 25 for both qualitative and quantitative errors. This will now print test scores as 25 and significance as normal even when the test is not initialized by the user.
- Changed the display of O/L qualifier only for words child, cold and milk. The qualifier text was displayed incorrectly in the PDF report for words that were not supposed to allow this error in previous versions.
- Program now counts all errors, including omissions correctly when generating the PEA results.
- Column headers for table on the first page of SSW test results now correctly show 'Left First' and 'Right First', instead of Left First for both rows.
- Changed the font size for incorrect words in SSW test printed on the PDF report to match that of the test word. The report now prints all text in a uniform font size.
- Changed the text 'Cardinal Responses' to 'Qualitative Errors' on the SSW test module screen.
- Changed categories for speech-in-quiet/noise test scores in the test scores and normative limits summary table.
Speech-in-Quiet, Right Ear and Speech-in-Quiet, Left Ear : DEC
Speech-in-Noise, Right Ear and Speech-in-Noise, Left Ear : DEC/TFM
Quiet-Noise Difference, Right Ear and Quiet-Noise Difference, Left Ear : TFM
Interaural difference, Speech-in-Noise: INT
Change logs from previous versions
Check out the change logs from previous versions of the APD test software.
Version 1.3.2 includes a minor bug fix to correctly show the SSW test norms for adults patients 70 years of age or older. This release is more like a hotfix rather than an update, in response to a user request to help resolve a very specific issue. Therefore, no public announcement was made about its release as there were no other changes to the program.
- Added a new summary page to the PDF report showing all the Buffalo Model APD test parameters and qualifiers. The summary page contains a list of all test parameters, patient scores, normative limit for each parameter and significance - significant parameters are marked by ☑.
- Generates a new PDF document containing the new summary page that users can include in their patient reports.
- Added Back-to-Back (BTB) qualifier to list of cardinal responses in the SSW test. The new qualifier is marked automatically and need not be manually selected by the user during the test.
- Fixed a bug in the SSW test where navigation to previous or next screen cleared the recorded word entered by the user. The bug does not affect scoring as words are still correctly marked as wrong, but will affect phonemic error analysis as the recorded word shows as a blank entry. Please see below for a detailed description of the bug. *
- Fixed a bug in the SSW test where the order and ear effect are shown as significant when the difference is exactly equal to zero.
- Fixed a bug in the SSW test where reinstruction symbol (∧) is always shown for the four sets of practice words. The practice sets now show the symbol only when user selects a reinstruction option for the sets.
- Fixed a bug to prevent the software from trying to print the PDF report when the corresponding PDF file is already open. Doing so on the older version will cause the program to become unresponsive. The software will now ask the user to close the PDF file and try to print the report again.
- Added significance summary values for Quiet-Noise Difference for the right and left ears - QND-L and QND-R and the interaural noise score difference for the W-22 Speech-in-Quiet/Noise test on the main page summary.
- Changed the text in the Qualifiers Summary table for SSW qualifiers on Page 2 from "A-Type" to "Type-A Pattern".
- Type-A indicator on the SSW test results table is shown as ☑ for Yes and ☐ for No. In the previous versions, results where there was no Type-A pattern were shown as ☒, which can be incorrectly interpreted.
- Intermediate files created during the PDF generation process are now deleted upon completion of the process. Files having the extensions .aux, .out, .log and other intermediate files will no longer be created along with the two PDF files.
- Updated the software version displayed on the PDF report footer to correctly show 1.3.1. Reports generated using version 1.3 incorrectly showed 1.2.1 on the report footers.
Files created in older versions will not be automatically assigned the BTB qualifier when opened in the newer version. To get the BTB qualifier in the cardinal responses list, open an older file in Version 1.3.1, go to the SSW Test page and click Save. Saving the file from the SSW Test screen will calculate BTB qualifier for all test word sets. You can now re-print the report and see any word sets that have this qualifier assigned to them.
The PDF report now takes slightly longer (~ 5 to 10 seconds) to print because the software generates two PDF documents - a full report and a summary page. Please feel free to report any issues with excessive printing time, e.g. more than a minute or error generating the documents, or if you need additional information about the updates.
* SSW Test Bug Description
The bug caused the SSW test module to clear out incorrectly recorded responses when switching between words. The error occurs when the same numbered word is marked as wrong on two consecutive word sets.
Example: The second word of Set 1 (A B C D), i.e. B is marked as wrong and the response is recorded as X. Then, the second word of Set 2 (E F G H), i.e. F is marked as wrong and the response is recorded as Y. Switching from Set 2 to Set 1 would reset the recorded response for Set 1, i.e. the recorded word is no longer saved as X.
Version 1.3 is the first major release following 6 months of trial access to the audiology community. There were no major changes made to the layout and functionality of the software. The start-up screen was changed to allow users having full version license codes to register their product to continue using the software.
- Fixed a bug where incorrect normative limit values were used to determine the significance level in the main summary of APD test results in the PDF report.
- Added a summary of central battery test qualifiers to the PDF report. The report shows three tables with a summary of qualifiers in the Speech-in-Quiet/Noise test, SSW test and Phonemic Synthesis test.
- Added tables describing the qualifiers from APD central battery tests and their indication of different processing disorder categories.
- Changed appearance of page numbers to improve readability (added 'Page' before the number).
- Added software name and version number to footer of PDF report below page number.
- Added a display prompt when data is successfully saved to file.
- Added Left and Right buttons on the W-22 Speech-in-Quiet/Noise test form to improve navigation to left and right ear word lists.
- Added option to select a different set of words for W-22 Speech-in-Quiet/Noise test.
Users can change the default set (1-D and 3-D) to 2-D and 4-D. - Improved layout of buttons on the SSW test form.
- Fixed W-22 Speech-in-Quiet/Noise test score calculation for quiet words in left ear.
Report now correctly prints the score for this set of words. - Changed test significance calculation procedure to show mild significance only when the test scores are greater than/less than the corresponding normative values (not when scores are equal to norms).
- Fixed cardinal response indicators for quiet (Q) and quick response (QR) printed incorrectly on the report.
- Fixed error while printing the phonemic errors tally (PEA) tally table if total number of errors exceeded 43.
- Fixed issue with PEA tally table not splitting onto a separate page.
- Added reinstruction markers on the PDF report for practice sets of SSW test.
- Fixed a null exception error when words marked as wrong in the SSW test are left blank - saving without entering the recorded word for a wrong response crashes the program.
- Added software version number to title bar on the main (patient information) form.
